Natural Building Workshops 2017

This course is an introduction to the basic techniques of earthen building, covering all aspects from soil selection to final decoration, with constant hands on supervised practice.

Each course is limited to ten participants to ensure a high standard of tuition. Instruction will be in English and Thai.

The courses will take place at Mae Mut Garden,  in the Mae Win district of Chiang Mai province, at the foothills of Doi Inthanon on the following dates:

Different construction styles pros and cons

Brick Making



Brick laying, Walls, arches and corners

How to build a straight wall

Shelving options



Preparing plaster materials

First coat plaster practice

Using glass and bottles for decoration

Bas relief



Prep for electrical work, laying wires and fixing sockets.

Setting windows and doors

Preparing final plaster

Final plaster practice



Final plaster practice

How to waterproof adobe for bathrooms

Using lime plaster

Coloring plasters for decoration


DAY 6 am

Student led practice and Q&A

The cost of the course is 3500B per person, including transport to and from Chiang Mai, accommodation and all meals.  See here  to read some reviews of last year’s workshops
